Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Fixed Share Partner (FSP) or a Senior Solicitor or Associate to join our successful employment department and develop the employment offering at our busy and growing Beverley office.

The role will be based in the Beverley office and the candidate will be required to establish a permanent employment presence in that area, as such a following would be desirable but is not essential due to ongoing employment work generated from that office and other departments.

The Firm

Wilkin Chapman LLP is the largest law firm in Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire, with an unrivalled breadth and depth of expertise and experience.

We are distinguished by our approachability, innovation and commitment to providing the best service we can to our clients along with achieving and maintaining quality standards.

We believe that this quality, service-led approach is also reflected by the number of accreditations and recommendations that the firm regularly achieves with the UK's leading legal directories, such as Legal 500, Chambers UK and is ranked 111 in The Lawyer UK’s top 200 law firms by turnover.

The Department

Our employment team is the largest in the region and our expertise is reflected by our Legal 500 Tier 2 ranking.

The Employment team advises businesses of all sizes ranging from sole traders to PLCs, across various sectors (including education, agriculture and food, public authorities and third sector) based locally, regionally and nationally.

We have nine fee earners in the team based at Lincoln, Grimsby and Beverley. Our well established team is looking to grow and expand in the East Yorkshire market with a key appointment to our Beverley office. The individual will be responsible for developing the employment work from that office and will be required to provide employment support on transactions for our busy Beverley corporate and commercial team.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Fixed Share Partner, Senior Solicitor or Associate to demonstrate their ability to win new business, run their own case-load, whilst managing their client’s expectations with a friendly and professional approach.

Prospective candidates must have a sound understanding and be able to demonstrate their ability to manage a technically experienced case-load covering the full spectrum of employment work, predominantly Respondent but also Claimant, as well as providing support for the corporate and commercial team.

As well as managing their own caseload, the successful candidate will be expected to lead business development and take part in departmental strategy with a focus on growing the employment offering at the Beverley office.

The aim would be to grow an employment team in the Beverley office and therefore the candidate would be required to develop and supervise more junior members of the team over time.

Duties will include
  • Carrying out work referred to above in a technically strong, collaborative and team focused manner.
  • Providing support for other team members, particularly more junior members of the team.
  • Assist in continued growth of the employment department but focussing on developing the work at the Beverley office.
  • Work with the Head of Department and other partners in the department to ensure that an effective and efficient service is provided to all clients.
  • Responsible for achieving financial targets agreed with Head of Department and ensuring good financial hygiene is delivered within own caseload and by team members.
  • Conduct all matters in the client’s best interest and in accordance with the highest professional standards and applicable quality standards at all times.
Qualifications
  • The successful candidate will be a fully qualified Solicitor.
  • You will need to demonstrate a track record of advising employer clients and business development.
  • A fundamental part of the role will involve business development and networking.
  • A client following is desirable but not essential.
Skills Required

Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate:

  • Previous experience as a Fixed Share Partner, Senior Solicitor or Associate within Employment.
  • A proven ability to work to deadlines and achieve billing, time recording, and fee-earning targets together with an understanding of good financial hygiene.
  • That they are commercially astute, technically strong and keep themselves current on key legal and business news.
  • Excellent skills in communication, client relations and collaborative team working.
  • That they provide a professional, quality service in a timely manner and respond effectively to requests from internal and external clients.
  • The ambition to succeed and commitment to departmental development and client relationship management.
  • An understanding and willingness to embrace the Firm’s values and behaviours.
